Institute For Unpopular Culture
(www.ifuc.org)
presents . . .

Death to Electric Guitars!

our annual fundraiser to keep IFUC's
doors kicked open yet another year!

Revelers, musical merry-makers, art enthusiasts, and
like-minded creative types are cordially invited to
experience our guest performers of the evening, three
Bay area knock-out bands who rock out on classical
instruments: the Punk Rock Orchestra, the Extra Action
Marching Band, and Amber Asylum (www.amberasylum.com).

This marks the debut performance of the Institute's
'house band,' the Punk Rock Orchestra
(
www.punkrockorchestra.com), since the recording of
their first CD up at George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch.
The PRO worked under the aegis of legendary sound
engineer, Leslie Ann Jones (2004 Grammy Award winner
and daughter of infamous conductor Spike Jones). This
50-some odd collection of classically-trained
musicians thunders out renditions of the greatest hits
of punk rock!

The culminating crescendo performance of the evening
entails the Extra Action marching band . . . this
description (taken from their website,
(www.extra-action.com) should give you an idea of
what's in store:

"The Extra Action Marching Band exists in a world
between traditional marching band and ecstatic
turmoil. This generously-portioned, smartly-attired
group of up to 40 performers include a hypnotic drum
corps, a smoking horn section, a bullhorn virtuoso, an
aggressively friendly pep squadron, and a sultry flag
team who, although not famous for their good taste,
know how to work the crowd into a high state of horny
hilarity with their graceful, in-your-face stunts and
dizzying routines. Together the group delivers a
deliriously engaging show with an emphasis on torrid
rhythm, spontaneous and unrestrained __expression,
thunderous upheaval, and remote-controlling the
collective ass of crowds everywhere."

Musical genius aside, we are also showcasing the
work of three tremendous Institute artists in the
Forum and Grand lobby of the Yerba Buena that night:
Dan Das Mann (www.dandasmann.com),
Nikolai Atanassov, and Tone Rawlings.
A creative spirit intrinsic to the Burning Man
movement, Dan Das Mann will be creating a
monumental installation of glowing metal trees on
the Yerba Buena veranda.

Finally, our dear Institute friends and supporters
will be encouraged to DONATE AT THE BAR :)
thanks to our lovely sponsors: Red Bull, Maker's Mark,
Kuya Rum, Beefeater, and Lagunitas Brewery,
